The child has significant lung disease and is vulnerable to illness, requiring careful infection control and consistent supervision. The support worker must be confident managing medical equipment and following detailed care instructions provided by the family.
Hours: 8 hours per week
Rostered Shifts: Any day Monday to Thursday, 2:15pm – 6:15pm
Key Responsibilities
Provide constant supervision to ensure safety at all times
Support a child who is on 24/7 oxygen therapy, ensuring nasal prongs remain in place and oxygen tubing is safely managed
Regularly monitor Masimo oxygen readings
Supervise all movement and play, including managing oxygen equipment during mobility (pram/wheelchair or tubing allowance)
Support feeding (purees and liquids only), with close awareness of aspiration risk
Provide supervision for sleep apnoea, including use of CPAP/oxygen mask
Observe and respond appropriately to muscle spasms and pain, following care guidance
Assist with cleaning and maintenance of medical equipment
Support light home management tasks, ensuring the child is never left unattended
About You
Hold a minimum Level 4 Health & Wellbeing qualification
Experience working with children with complex medical needs (highly desirable)
Confident using and supervising medical equipment (oxygen therapy, CPAP, monitoring devices)
Attentive, calm, and highly safety‑focused
Reliable, compassionate, and able to work closely with parents in a family‑led care model
